FAQ
Frequently asked
Latency, protocols, hosting, and licensing.
What latency can we actually expect?
Less than half a second glass-to-glass over WebRTC on healthy networks, and 6–20 seconds on standard HLS. Latency depends on encoder settings, network path and player buffer, so we publish tuning guides for each protocol.
Can we self-host, or is this cloud only?
Vasl is self-hosted. Get a license and run it on your own bare metal, in your VPC, or on any cloud VM. Size the instance for your concurrency.
Which protocols are supported?
Ingest: WebRTC / WHIP, SIP audio and video, RTMP, RTSP, SRT, VOD, a URL, and NDI. Egress: WebRTC / WHEP, HLS, and RTSP. Restream: RTMP and SRT. Codecs are transcoded when one side cannot accept the other. ABR, SVC, and simulcast are planned for a later release.
How does licensing work?
Pick a term under Pricing on the homepage, then complete payment. A license key is issued and emailed with portal access. Manage renewals and keys from Account in the nav.
How is billing handled?
Prices are shown on Vasl. Payment is processed by our checkout provider — card details never touch Vasl servers. After purchase, sign in at the customer portal to manage activations, billing and keys.
Can we cancel, and do you refund?
Subscriptions can be cancelled from the customer portal and stay active until the end of the paid period. Annual licences are refundable within 14 days if you have not deployed to production.
